BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - A 35-year-old inmate at the Louisiana State Penitentiary is dead after allegedly being stabbed by another inmate during a fight.
The Louisiana Department of Public Safety and Corrections announced on Wednesday, Jan. 4, that Jonathan Robertson died the previous day on Tuesday, Feb. 3.
The inmate accused of the stabbing was identified as 43-year-old Melvin Lopez. Authorities say in 2016, Lopez was sentenced to life in prison for second-degree murder. The West Feliciana Sheriff’s Office has a warrant for Lopez for the charge of murder in connection with Robertson’s death, according to officials.
At the time of his death, Robertson was serving a 75-year sentence for armed robbery and attempted armed robbery.
