The Jasper City Council on Tuesday voted unanimously to move forward with a plan to add two additional police officers to routine patrol at the Jasper Independent School District.
The motion to adopt the plan, increasing the number of School Resource Officers from two to four was made by council member Anderson Land and was ironically seconded by council member David Shultz, who nixed the plan earlier this month in a previous meeting.
The measure passed without any discussion in one swift move in the meeting that had been specially called at the request of council members Land and DeMarcus Holmes, but for some reason delayed over a week.
Under the plan as outlined in the original meeting and once again on Tuesday, the school district will pay the officers during the school months and the city will pay them during the summer months, when school is out with the officers providing extra patrol on the streets of Jasper and filling in for officers who are on vacation.
