Investigation of Red River Parish school assistant principal ongoing

COUSHATTA, La. -- A Red River Parish school principal is under investigation following her arrest last month on an extortion charge, according to a report Monday in the Red River Parish Journal. Nicolette Doughty, the assistant principal of Red River Junior High, was arrested on May 24.According to the Journal, Doughty is alleged to have threatened staff members with the loss of their teaching licenses and cause an investigation by the state education board. She reportedly said she would carry out the threats if she received a disciplinary write-up for her alleged negligence during school testing in April, according to information the journal received in a public records request. Superintendent Alison Strong and child welfare and attendance Director Dan Pickett were listed as the initial complainants. Red River Parish sheriff's Det. Tamara Walker also interviewed the school principal and another district director. Doughty has not been at work since her arrest, the Journal said. The School Board offered no comment, and the sheriff's office confirmed there is an ongoing investigation.
