SHREVEPORT, La. -  Veterans Day celebrated on Nov. 11, is a time for Americans to pause, reflect and express our deep gratitude to the men and women who have served in the United States Armed Forces. This day is more than just a federal holiday; it's a tribute to the courage, dedication and sacrifices made by our veterans throughout history. Veterans Day, which originally began as Armistice Day to remember and honor the end of World War I in 1918, has evolved into a day to honor all who have served in the military, both past and present. From those who fought in distant lands to protect our freedoms to those who served stateside to keep us safe, we recognize the commitment that each service member has made to defend our nation.
