Good boy! K9 Bruce retiring from Newton Co Sheriff's Dept

Newton County Sheriff Robert Burby has announced that the department’s K9, Bruce, will be retiring as of December 31st after serving with the department since 2018. Burby says Bruce, a 9-year-old Belgian Malinois, had been teamed up with Deputy Joshua Nash since February of last year and together the pair had been responsible for many finds, successful tracks, and arrests. Bruce actually began his service to humanity in the military as a personal protection dog for a military family. He was then trained for law enforcement service by LAK9 in Louisiana. Bruce is a dual purpose K9, trained to detect narcotics and conduct crushed vegetation tracks, along with being patrol certified. Meanwhile, a new K9 is coming to the department. Sheriff Burby says his name is Jack, and he’ll also be paired-up with Deputy Nash. Burby says both will attend training this month, and it’s expected that Jack will begin duty is February.
