GILMER, Texas (KLTV) - Police arrested a man for alleged murder after responding to a report of a suspicious person and finding a woman dead. At about 1:43 a.m. on Monday, officers responded to the 800 block of North Street after a suspicious person was reported, according to the Gilmer Police Department. Upon investigation, police said they found Vennessa Smith, 41, dead at the residence. Craig Allen Smith, 40, was found to match the description of the suspicious person and was arrested for alleged failure to identify/fugitive giving false information, an outstanding warrant for assault family violence, and murder. Smith has been booked into the Upshur County Jail.
