BEAUREGARD PARISH, La. (July 31, 2026) — A foster father has been arrested in connection with the death of an 18-month-old girl who died after being hospitalized with severe injuries.
Authorities said Melanie Trejo, 18 months old, was taken to a hospital on July 21 and died on July 26.
The Beauregard Parish Sheriff's Office announced that Alberto Moran, 31, was arrested Thursday, July 30, on charges of:
- Second-degree murder
- Obstruction of justice
Chief Investigator Sylvester Demond said detectives obtained digital evidence that led to Moran's arrest.
Investigators previously reported that the child suffered brain hemorrhaging in multiple areas and that some injuries appeared to be in various stages of healing.
The investigation remains ongoing.
