WEBSTER PARISH, La. (KSLA) - Former Webster Parish Registrar of Voters Melanie Smith, 63, and her husband, Kenny, 58, have been found dead in their home.
The Webster Parish Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating their deaths.
Sheriff Jason Parker says the couple was found dead inside their home in the 5500 block of Highway 528 just after 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 7. Deputies were sent out to the home after getting a call for a welfare check.
“The bodies are being sent to Little Rock for autopsy, and we’re continuing to look into the circumstances surrounding the deaths,” Sheriff Parker said.
Melanie retired as the registrar of voters in December of 2020 after serving for 29 years in that office, as both the chief deputy and registrar, the sheriff’s office says. She was first sworn in as registrar back in 2003.
Kenny was a local businessman who retired after his family business in Dixie Inn was sold, the sheriff’s office reports.
