For the first time in the history of the Catholic Church, an American has been named Pope. Some 133 Cardinals gathered at the Vatican in Rome and following a two day Conclave, they chose Robert Francis Prevost on Thursday.
He will go by the name of Pope Leo XIV (Pope Leo the Fourteenth).
Prevost is a native of Chicago. He served as a Bishop in Peru for two decades before being brought to the Vatican by Pope Francis to choose and manage Bishops around the world.
Prevost is the 267th Pope, which began with the original Pope, Saint Peter.
