HUDSON, Texas (KTRE) - A former Hudson city official is facing charges of abuse of official capacity stemming from his time with the City, the mayor said.
According to Mayor Caleb Ramsey, the former city manager, Rodney McCarty, has been indicted by a grand jury for the offense of abuse of official capacity, a state jail felony. He did not go into detail about what McCarty is specifically accused of doing.
According to judicial records, the formal charge against McCarty is abuse of official capacity >=$2500<$30,000. It was filed on July 17, 2026.
Ramsey said the City’s administration took appropriate notice of allegations involving suspected improprieties during the period when McCarty served as city administrator. Reports concerning these suspected improprieties were submitted to the Angelina County Sheriff’s Office, which in turn notified the Texas Rangers, he said. Following an investigation by the Texas Rangers, the matter was referred to the Angelina County District Attorney’s Office for further action.
Ramsey said that the City will continue to cooperate with law enforcement and the judicial process, and said that corruption will not be tolerated in the city of Hudson.
McCarty was appointed City Manager in August 2024. At the time of the announcement, city officials said that he had dedicated 22 years of service to the City, holding various positions such as director of public works. He was placed on leave in December 2025.
