LONGVIEW, Texas (KLTV) - A federal judge sentenced a Longview man to federal prison for stealing 31 guns from a Longview gun store, including one later used to shoot a Longview police officer.
Kip Semauah Hurt, 26, was sentenced to 20 years Tuesday after pleading guilty to Hobbs Act robbery and use of a firearm in furtherance of a crime of violence, according to a U.S. Attorney’s Office release.
Hurt robbed the Longview store of 31 guns on Aug. 1, 2024, the release states.
Traveon Woodberry, 23, of Longview, was found to have used the stolen gun in the shooting of Longview Police Officer Robert Leininger in March 2025 during an attempted arrest. Leininger was later honored with a Law Enforcement Purple Heart.
U.S. District Judge J. Campbell Barker sentenced Hurt to 20 years in federal prison.
Woodberry pleaded guilty to three charges of aggravated assault against a public servant and was sentenced to 12 years in the Gregg County Jail.
“This type of organized criminal behavior will not be tolerated in Longview and the surrounding area,” Longview Police Chief Anthony Boone said in a release. “Local law enforcement in Gregg County will continue working together and will utilize every available state and federal resource to combat crime.”
