Leaders of the oil and gas industry say a milestone has been reached that could result in hundreds of jobs for the workers of Southeast Texas as the Golden Pass Liquified Natural Gas terminal near Sabine Pass cranks up and goes into service with the arrival of the first ship.
The AL QA'IYYAH arrived on Monday ready to be loaded with liquified natural gas ready to be shipped to a foreign port.
Golden Pass, which is a is a joint venture between QatarEnergy and Exxon Mobil is said to be one of the largest LNG export plants in the country, capable of exporting more than 18 million metric tons of gas per year once it's up and operating at full speed.
NG export plants with total capacity of more than 18 million metric tons per year, once fully operational.
The ship that arrived on Monday is scheduled to set sail for Italy once loaded.
It is believed that the operation will be joined by other terminals on both sides of Sabine Lake to meet the energy challenges of the world and at the same time create numerous jobs here in Southeast Texas.
Many people from Jasper, Newton and Tyler Counties work in similar jobs each day, traveling to the Golden Triangle.
