Fire destroys home near Farrsville

It is still not known what caused a Monday afternoon fire that destroyed a home near Farrsville in Newton County. The volunteers of the Burkeville Fire Department were dispatched to the location on Newton County Road 1065 shortly after noon, when it was reported that the single-story structure was on fire and arrived to find it completely engulfed in flames. The firefighters from Burkeville immediately called for help from both the East End, Jasper and Newton Fire Departments and it took the combined work of all to finally bring the fire under control. However, the home was a complete loss. The owner of the home, Mary Woods, said she was at work when someone called to tell her house was on fire. Woods said she had no idea what might have sparked the blaze. No injuries resulted from the incident.
