Auto theft suspect jailed

Archived as originally published. Information reflects the date of this article.

A Kirbyville man is jailed after a Jasper County deputy discovered him driving a stolen vehicle. According to Chief Deputy Scotty Duncan, at about 8:00 Saturday morning a deputy stopped the driver of a Mazda pickup truck near Kirbyville when he noticed the truck had no license plate displayed, the truck itself had been freshly spray-painted black, and the rear window was busted out. Once stopped, Duncan said the driver, 38-year-old Joshua Lowery, used a knife to turn the ignition off. Duncan said a check of the truck’s VIN showed it to have been reported as stolen in Newton County. Lowery was arrested and charged with Theft of Property, and Precinct 6 Justice of the Peace Steve Connor set his bond at $5,000.00.
