If you see a strange looking un-manned watercraft on Toledo Bend, Sabine Parish Sheriff Aaron Mitchell says they’re drone vessels and they’re being used to study the depth of the lake water and the topography of the lake floor. Sheriff Mitchell says boaters should steer clear of the vessels, “We ask the public, boaters, and fisherman not to disrupt or access these drone boats in any way while you are enjoying Toledo Bend Lake.” The vessels follow pre-programmed routes and the data they collect will be used to produce the next hi-resolution fishing map for the lake. The surveys will continue for the next three months.
