Emergency crews were busy Thursday morning dealing with a fatal crash. It happened shortly before 9:00 on Highway 96 near County Road 619, just south of Kirbyville. Texas Department of Public Safety Sergeant Shana Clark said a 2017 Hino box truck was traveling northbound and struck the rear of a 2013 Chevrolet Impala. Both vehicles went off of the highway and the car hit a tree. The driver of the car, 76-year-old Marcellus Davis, of Kirbyville, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the truck, 61-year-old Mikal Jenkins, of Beaumont, was transported by ambulance to Baptist Hospital in Beaumont with non-life-threatening injuries.
