Chip truck trailer brakes locked up and overheated, Jasper firefighters cooled it down

Archived as originally published. Information reflects the date of this article.

Jasper firefighters had to cool down a set of trailer brakes under a fully loaded chip truck after they locked up and became glowing red hot. It happened at about 3:30 Thursday afternoon at the Highway 190 Fuel Stop in east Jasper. The truck driver, who works for MBE, Inc. in Lufkin, said that he noticed smoke coming from under the trailer so he immediately stopped and called 911. Firefighters arrived quickly and immediately went to work to cool down the brakes in order to protect the full load of wood chips.
