The Orange County Sheriff’s Department has identified a man who attacked a deputy and then was shot and killed on Wednesday morning as 39-year-old Coby Granger. It happened shortly after 8:00 at a home in Orangefield. The department said dispatchers received calls saying that Granger, who had a history of mental illness, was threatening neighbors, so deputies were sent to the scene. One there, a deputy was attacked and suffered very serious traumatic injuries to his face and head, so he shot and killed Granger. The deputy underwent treatment at St Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont. Meanwhile, the Texas Rangers have been called in to investigate the officer involved shooting.
