CHEROKEE COUNTY, Texas (KLTV) - Cherokee County officials are looking for a person who abandoned a stolen dump truck Tuesday morning. According to the release from the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office, a report of a stolen Road and Bridge Department dump truck came in around 9 a.m. The victim said it had been stolen from CR 4211 while crews were working in the area. Deputies were able to find the truck on Mixon Road and Highway 110 in Smith County near the Whitehouse VFD, they said. It appeared the thief failed to release the air brakes, causing the truck’s tires to catch fire. According to the release, it’s believed the suspect abandoned the truck and fled into the woods. Authorities including the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office and Texas Department of Criminal Justice Canine Unit have searched for the suspect in the surrounding areas and have not yet located them. The investigation will continue with the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division.
