CARTHAGE, Texas (KLTV) - A group of East Texans came together on Tuesday for a unique fundraiser for a family in need.
On Dec. 30, Isaac Nicholas Pedraza, 8, and Hector Cesar Pedraza, 11, died in a house fire in Waskom.
Employees at the Carthage Livestock Auction came up with the idea for a benefit auction. On Tuesday, they sold five cows and various items, including boots, a cooler, and a trough in a rollback auction to benefit the family.
“My boys brought this community together; all the love people are showing, we are really thankful,” said Hector Pedraza, the boys’ father.
The boys’ mother says she knows they’re smiling down.
“He loved being around the bulls. I think he wanted to be a bull rider; he would have toys and ride them,” said Elizabeth Olvera.
The event raised $130,000 for the family, including food sales.
