Newton County Sheriff Colton Havard said it all began when deputies received word that a Nissan passenger car was sitting still or parked in the middle of Farm to Market Road 1416, not far from the Biloxi Community shortly after 2:00 on Sunday morning, which soon resulted in a police chase.
Havard said as Deputy Jacob Walters attempted to wake the driver, the vehicle took off at a high rate of speed and the chase was on.
Sheriff Havard said the chase continued until the vehicle finally pulled into a driveway and stopped just off County Road 4393, where the driver, Toddrick Jamal Penland, surrendered without incident.
Penland was taken to the Newton County Jail, where he was later charged with Evading Arrest or Detention with a Motor Vehicle and also Driving While Intoxicated.
