Newton Fire Department Captain Melanie Smith says an old camp house was destroyed by a wildfire on Tuesday afternoon. The blaze was reported shortly after 2:00 near Highway 87 south of Newton.
Smith said it started on land owned by Livingston resident Keith Crane, and she said it originated from a burning wood pile and burned just over 3 acres of land.
Newton firefighters were assisted by the Burkeville and Bon Wier Fire Departments and the Texas A&M Forest Service and was fully extinguished at 3:45.
