A violation of the Jasper County burn ban resulted in a storage building and a travel trailer being destroyed by fire on Monday afternoon. It happened shortly after 3:00 behind a house on Highway 190 near the Jasper-Newton County line.
The East End Volunteer Fire Department responded and arrived to find the storage building and travel trailer already burned. Firefighters worked quickly to stop the flames from spreading into a wooded area.
Jasper County Deputy Brian Gray issued a citation for violating the burn ban to the man who started the fire, Mark Arthur Boatner.
The fire occurred as winds out of the northeast were gusting to 35 miles per hour here in the Jasper Area.
Even though burn bans have been cancelled in most neighboring counties, the ban remains in place and Jasper County Judge Mark Allen said Friday that the forecast of high winds was one of his concerns and reasons for keeping the ban in place.
