Archived as originally published. Information reflects the date of this article.

A Bridge City High School football player was seriously injured during the 4th quarter of Friday night’s game against Silsbee. Abraham Munguia, a sophomore, was hurt when he was hit during a kickoff return. Play was halted as a medical helicopter landed and then flew Munguia to Texas Childrens Hospital in Houston. Officials from both school then decided to end the game at that point with Silsbee leading 33-7. Word came on Saturday afternoon from Bridge City Head Coach Chad Landry that Mungia was initially in the intensive care unit on Friday night and was moved to a private room on Saturday and is recovering. The exact type of injury that he suffered is not known.
