CARTHAGE, Texas (KLTV) - Carthage police have arrested a Beckville man following a shooting on Reese Street in Carthage Monday night. Corey Lynn Ward, 47, is charged with aggravated assault, prohibited weapon and unlawful possession of a firearm. His bond has not yet been set. According to a press release from Carthage Police Chief Blake Smith, police received a call at 9:25 p.m. of a shooting in the 500 block of Reese Street. Officer arrived to find a man lying in a yard and able to talk. He said Ward shot him and left in a dark colored Chevy Tahoe. Police relayed the information to the Panola County Sheriff’s Office. A witness said they saw someone dressed in dark clothing and standing over someone and shooting them at point blank range and then leave Reese Street in a dark-colored Tahoe. At 9:36 p.m., a deputy saw a dark-colored Tahoe entering Beckville on State Highway 149. The deputy stopped the vehicle and identified Ward as the driver, according to Smith. A weapon was found in plain view in the front passenger area, according to Smith. Another weapon was found later, along with extra ammunition. Ward was then arrested on weapon charges and later charged with aggravated assault.
