The U.S. Attorneys Office for the Eastern District of Texas has announced that the second of two men convicted in an animal cruelty case has been sentenced to federal prison. Donaldvan Williams, 30, of Beaumont, recently pleaded guilty to charges of Animal Crushing and Aiding & Abetting. On Tuesday he was sentenced to 3 years and 4 months imprisonment by U.S. District Judge Marcia A. Crone. Federal prosecutors say the crime of “Animal Crushing” is defined under federal criminal law as “Actual conduct in which one or more living non-human mammals, birds, reptiles, or amphibians, is purposely crushed, burned, drowned, suffocated, impaled, or otherwise subjected to serious bodily injury.” According to prosecutors, Williams and Decorius Mire were on the parking lot of a Beaumont apartment complex and saw a cat. Prosecutors say Mire encouraged Williams to kick the cat, which he did, and sent it flying 15 to 20 feet into the air. Prosecutors said Mire used his cell phone to shoot video of the crime and then posted it on social media. Mire received a 1 year and 6 month federal prison sentence in July of 2023.
