Newton County deputies recovered two stolen tractors and a trailer over the weekend. According to Sheriff Robert Burby, it happened shortly before noon on Sunday. Burby said deputies responded to a report of the stolen items being found in the area of County Roads 2349 and 3035, a little over 3 miles southwest of Newton. Once on scene, Burby said deputies located the first tractor abandoned on private property and, after receiving permission from the landowner, they removed the tractor and had it returned to its owner. Burby said the second tractor was found nearby. It was described as a Kubota L-3010 model. However, Burby said it had not yet been reported as stolen, so now deputies are working to find the owner. Meanwhile, the sheriff said the investigation was continuing and he expects that charges will soon be filed on the suspects.
