Another robbery has occurred at a Jasper convenience store; this time at the Sunshine Convenience Store and Washateria in the 1100 block of north Wheeler Street. Police were dispatched to the location shortly before 9:00 on Thursday evening when it was reported that a man had entered the store with a gun and demanded cash. Officers said the suspect which was only described by the clerk as a black male was last seen running north with an undisclosed amount of money in hand. Upon their arrival officers immediately went to work obtaining information and other details from the clerk and then began to use trained police dog to tack the path of the suspect where they reportedly found clothing or other items believed to be linked to the suspect resulting in praise for the officer the handling of the dog. Chief Foster later said in addition to the items of interest found, police had also obtained video from the store's surveillance system that he hoped would lead to the identity of the suspect. Ironically, the latest incident occurred at almost the same time and date a week ago of a similar robbery at the Sunshine Convenience Store on Highway 190 at the intersection of Graham Street near Tractor Supply. In that incident police said a man also entered the store with a gun and demanded cash. After ordering the clerk to lay face down on the floor, the suspect was last seen running north on Graham Street. Foster said Wednesday that there were no leads in that case.
