Jasper County Sheriff Chuck Havard has confirmed that a suspect believed to have pulled a gun and shot another man in the back of the head a venue called "The Barn" is in custody.
Havard the suspect, Mureia Donte Napoleon, 47 of Jasper walked into the Jasper County Sheriff's Department shortly before 4:00 on Saturday afternoon and turned himself in without incident.
Havard said shortly before noon that he and others had identified a suspect in the case and had obtained a warrant for the arrest of the individual charging him Aggravated Assault With a Deadly Weapon.
According to Havard the 40-year-old man who was shot, who has not been named, was still undergoing treatment at hospital in the Houston Area, where he was reported to be in stable condition.
Officers said the man was first treated at Christus Jasper Memorial Hospital before being transferred to the facility in Houston.
Havard said the shooting occurred at the at the location on County Road 119, just off of Farm to Market Road 3414, west of Jasper shortly after midnight. Havard said his deputies arrived to find the victim of the shooting had already been take to a local hospital.
According to the report, then incident or altercation started as an argument between the shooter and Napoleon in the parking lot of the venue.
