MINEOLA, Texas (KLTV) - A man broke into and set fire to a railroad building in Mineola to “clean it,” according to an affidavit.
According to an affidavit obtained from Wood County, Anival Reyes, 48, of Quitman, lit a fire inside a Union Pacific Railroad signal cabin in Mineola.
The affidavit said Reyes told an officer with the Mineola Police Department that he had gotten into the cabin by climbing through a window and that he set the fire because “the cabin was dirty and he wanted to clean everything.” The MPD then informed the Union Pacific Railroad Police Department.
Reyes was found inside the signal cabin and taken to a hospital by emergency services for possible smoke inhalation, according to the affidavit.
The affidavit notes that the railroad tracks adjacent to the signal cabin are used by Amtrak passenger trains and other trains transporting hazardous materials.
According to the affidavit, the fire posed a significant risk to the general public and passing trains because the cabin was close to the railroad tracks and a public street.
Reyes was charged with arson and booked into the Wood County Jail on a $20,000 bond.
