Winn Parish District Attorney dismisses case against teen accused of killing father

Archived as originally published. Information reflects the date of this article.

WINN PARISH, La. (KNOE) - The case centered around the shooting death of 51-year-old Chad Camp and the subsequent arrest of his son, Andrew Camp, was dismissed just over two years after the incident.

Chad Camp was shot and killed in his home on Saturday, April 15, 2023. Chad’s then-17-year-old son, Andrew, was arrested on April 16 on a charge of manslaughter.

Winn Parish District Attorney Chris Nevils dismissed the case on Monday, June 9, 2025.

Nevils said a lack of evidence supporting the charge prevented the prosecution from moving forward.

“Prosecutors have an ethical obligation to not go forward with a case that cannot be proved with evidence beyond a reasonable doubt, which evidence was lacking in this case, even if they believe it can be won,” Nevils said in a statement to KNOE.

Chad was an Ag teacher and the head softball coach at Calvin High School.

He led the Calvin softball team to winning back-to-back championships in 2021 and 2022. The team honored their late coach just two days after his death by playing a first-round playoff game against Castor High School.

The Winn Parish D.A. is moving forward with the charges against Jessica Shea, a Winnfield resident who was the second arrest made in connection with Chad’s death.

Shea was arrested on Thursday, April 20, 2023, on one charge of obstruction of justice and four charges of contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile.

According to Nevil’s statement to KNOE on June 12, Shea is accused of supplying alcohol to Andrew on the night of his father’s death.

Court records show that a toxicology expert testified that Andrew was “very close to the point of being in a stupor or coma” due to his blood alcohol content at the time of his father’s death.

Court records also show Shea told officers Andrew had been at her home that night, but she didn’t know anything about him consuming alcohol.
