A man accused of assaulting and threatening two women and pointing a gun at them before barricading himself inside a west Beaumont apartment was found dead of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound following an hours-long SWAT standoff, according to Beaumont police.
It began as a disturbance call at about 2:30 a.m. Saturday when police responded to the Regency Place Apartments, 5550 Folsom. The preliminary investigation revealed that a man had assaulted and threatened two women, pointing a weapon at them before barricading himself inside an apartment with three children.
Patrol and Special Assignment Unit officers were able to safely remove all victims from the residence and established a secure perimeter. SWAT and Hostage Negotiators were called to the scene and attempted to resolve the situation peacefully.
After several hours of attempted negotiations, SWAT officers made entry into the apartment and located Boyden’s body. He died from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The man was identified as Joshua Boyden, 28, of Beaumont.
Beaumont Police are continuing to investigate the incident.
