BEAUMONT — Beaumont police are investigating the second homicide since Friday after one person was killed and two others wounded when shots rang out at a 'trail ride' with a crowd estimated at 1,000. KFDM anchor/reporter Mello Styles was on scene capturing video and covering the shooting. BPD says the crowd was uncooperative and so large that police and EMS units couldn't get to the victims. Police had to park and carry the victims out of the uncooperative crowd. An officer drove one victim to the hospital, another was taken by EMS and a third arrived by private vehicle. One victim, identified as Rodtravian Perry, 25, of Houston, died; a second is critical and the third suffered non-life threatening injuries. BPD also had to request a multiagency response from local law enforcement to assist with clearing and securing the crime scene. Officers had received multiple calls for service throughout the night in reference to the “trail ride” and detectives have received no cooperation from witnesses on the scene. When BPD patrol officers arrived at the shooting scene, they found Tom Simpson, 26, with an AR weapon in his waistband. He was arrested for unlawfully carrying a weapon. - On Saturday, December 30th, 2023, at 11:33 pm, Beaumont Police responded to the 6500 block of Bigner in reference to a victim of a shooting. The caller advised two victims were shot and lying near West Beulah Baptist Church. Officers arrived on scene after maneuvering through approximately 1000 patrons attending a “trail ride”. Due to the sheer amount of people, Beaumont EMS and Patrol Units could not get to the victims by auto. Officers had to park, approach on foot and physically carry the gun shot victims out of the uncooperative crowd. One victim was brought to an awaiting Beaumont EMS unit and another victim was transported to a local hospital by BPD Patrol. BPD also had to request a multiagency response from local law enforcement to assist with clearing and securing the crime scene. A third gunshot victim arrived at a local hospital by private auto.
