SHREVEPORT, La. — An 18-year-old faces multiple charges after authorities say he attempted to bring a handgun into a Monday afternoon event at Booker T. Washington High School.
Around 2:40 p.m., an electronic weapon detection system alerted security as Darius Rashad Johnson tried to enter the facility. A school resource officer intervened, prompting Johnson to run from the scene. He was arrested following a short chase.
District officials credited the technology and the officer’s rapid response for ensuring the safety of students and staff. Johnson remains in custody, and no injuries were reported during the incident.
