The sheriff of Vernon Parish, Sam Craft in Leesville is reporting that a 13-year-old boy has been arrested in connection with a murder that occurred just after midnight on Friday morning at a home on Hughes Road, west of Leesville.
Craft and others believe the teen to be responsible for the shooting death of 21-year-old Kavin Simmons, Jr. who died of a wound to his chest as first responders fought to save his life.
Sheriff Craft said it was determined that Simmons and a 13-year-old male family member had been in a verbal argument when the juvenile obtained a pistol and fired one shot striking Simmons in the chest resulting in Simmons death.
The juvenile was taken into custody at the scene without incident and taken to the Vernon Parish Jail where he was charged with one count of Second-Degree Murder.
