KFDM in Beaumont is reporting that a suspect has been arrested in connection with the discovery of a body that was found beside a road on the city's south side on Friday morning.
Officers apparently wasted no time in investigating the incident and before the day was over had arrested a suspect in the case who was later identified as Thaddeus McCray, 34, of Beaumont.
Police now believe McCray stabbed Laquanta Edwards, 33, also of Beaumont, several times at a home on Ashley Avenue before dumping her body in the 6500 block of Frint Road, not far from Tyrell Park.
Officers said the search for Edwards or an investigation into her whereabouts actually began the night before when a friend received a call from her saying she needed help.
Officers reportedly went to a home in the 2400 block of Ashley Street where it was believed the calls for help were made and were unable to find Edwards, but did find evidence that a violent crime had occurred there.
Police learned that McCray lived there and after the body was discovered began a search for McCray who was later arrested at a home on Euclid Street, on the. city's south side.
So far there is no word on any alleged motive for the murder of Edwards who was said to be a mother of three children. However, the investigation is continuing.
KFDM reported that a check of public data shows McCray was sentenced to 10 years probation in July 2024 after pleading guilty to Aggravated Assault Causing Serious Bodily Injury in Jefferson County.
