MARSHALL, Texas (KLTV) - A woman is behind bars after an incident left another woman dead and her child injured Sunday. The two were struck by a car following a fight with several others, according to a release from the Marshall Police Department. Derklya Fort, 23, was found underneath a vehicle along with her injured 5-year-old son nearby. EMS arrived, but Fort was pronounced dead at the scene. Her son was taken to a hospital. According to police, they responded to the 100 block of Martindale around 10 p.m. after being told of a disturbance involving around 40 people. Police arrested Samantha Johnson, 22, of Marshall. She was sent to Harrison County Jail and charged with murder, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and injury to a child with intent. The incident is still under investigation.
