Many Tigers defeat Winnfield 49-0 — BDC archive

The Many Tigers, playing tough on both sides of the ball, offensive and defensive, defeated the Winnfield Tigers 49-0 last Friday night.

Playing before a huge home crowd, a lot of excitement before the game started, as the youth football teams were honored, along with the future cheerleaders of Many High, and then a very large fireworks display greeted the MHS Tigers as they entered the field.

MHS Tigers received the opening kickoff and before fans could settle in the, Sr. running back Jeremiah James electrified the crowd with a 61 yard touchdown with 10.31 left in the first quarter of action. James had to tight rope the final 10 yards to make it into the end zone. Deacon LaFollette added the kick for a 7-0 lead.

Winnfield, on their first possession of the game, drove all the way down to the MHS half yard line, but Many would force Winnfield back to the 2 yard line. On third, Winnfield fumbled as Many recovered the ball all the way back at the 34. CB Ked Gosey made a big hit on Winnfield RB, to keep them from scoring on a 47 yard run, which resulted at the half yard line.

From the 34, James picked up 48 yards, followed by Tylen Singleton 18,James 7 yards on 2 plays and then QB Hayden Evans would score on a 1 yard TD run. LaFollette pat got Many leading 14-0, with 3:53 remaining in the first quarter.

After a Winnfield punt, MHS retained the ball at their own 46 yard line, with 1:52 still left in the first quarter.

James carried 5 times in this drive and wrapped up the 54 yard drive with a 5 yard run for his second touchdown of the evening. It took Many just a minute and 25 seconds to post a 21-0 on LaFollette pat, : 18 left in the first quarter.

Winnfield would fumble again in their possession and this turnover cost WHS 6 points, when CB Trevor McClendon scooped up the football at the 48 yard line and raced into the end zone to build the score at 28-0 as LaFollette once again was true, 10:14 left in the first half.

After another WHS punt, the Tigers took over at their own 30, 9:30 remaining in the second quarter.

James scored on a 4 yard touchdown run, with 4:12 left in the half. This drive took 5:18, 12 plays to cover the 70 yards. LaFollette pat was good for a 35-0 MHS.

WHS would cough up their 3rd fumble of the night, as MHS recovered at the 35.

On first down, Evans completed an 35 yard TD pass to Ky Warren, but the MHS would be guilty of ineligible player down field to wipe out the td. On this drive, WHS defense would stop Many on offense with :42 left in the half.

But WHS would fumble for the 4th time in the half as the MHS Tigers recovered at the 16 with :14 left to go.

Warren would get his 1st touchdown of the season on a 16 yard run as LaFollette pat was good for a 42-0 lead with only: 05 left.

In the 3rd quarter Things continue to go bad for WHS as on the 1st play they would fumble for the 5th time. J.J Anderson recovered at the 8 yard line for MHS and picked the football up and J.J. recorded his first touchdown of the season . With 10:30 in the 3rd, LaFollette pat rolled the lead up to 49-0.

With a running clock the entire second half, neither team would score as MHS record stands at 4-2, 2-0 in district.

For the night, James had 3 touchdowns, 224 yards on 22 carries for 11.1 yards per carry. Evans had 29 all purpose yards, 1 touchdowns, Singleton had 32 all purpose yards, Trevor McClendon 1 receptions for 10 yards and a defensive touchdown, Ky Warren 1 carry for 16 yards and a touchdown, J.J. Anderson 1 defensive touchdown. MHS had 304 yards of total offense on the night.

The Many Tigers will be on the road at Jonesboro-Hodge on Thursday night at 7.
