Woman severely burned in Nacogdoches County house fire

Archived as originally published. Information reflects the date of this article.

The Nacogdoches County Sheriff’s Department says a woman is undergoing treatment after she suffered burns to a large amount of her body in a Monday night fire that destroyed a house and a vehicle. The department says it occurred shortly before 11:00, about 6 miles southeast of Nacogdoches, and six volunteer fire departments battled the blaze. The victim has been identified as 28-year-old Laura Leann Young, and at last word she was undergoing treatment in a Houston hospital. The department says the woman initially refused medical care, so deputies filed an emergency application for medical attention due to the severity of her injuries. Deputies say another person who was at the house fled the scene. They believe it was because that person had active arrest warrants. Meanwhile, the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
