Newton Police Chief Will Jackson says two females underwent treatment and one female went to jail following a stabbing incident late Monday afternoon. It occurred shortly before 5:00 at a house in the 500 block of Washington Street in the far northern end of town. According to Chief Jackson, the suspect is a mentally ill 45-year-old woman, while one victim is 45-year-old Romanda Parks, of Jasper, and the other victim is a 14-year-old girl. Jackson said both victims sustained non-life-threatening wounds. Meanwhile, the name of the suspect has not yet been released pending formal charges at arraignment. Chief Jackson said she will be charged with two counts of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon.
