A woman had a minor injury and a man in a boat is credited with saving a dog after a late Friday morning wreck on the Highway 190 Bridge at Dam B.
Texas Department of Public Safety Sergeant Shana Clark said 22-year-old Erika Keele, of Zavalla, was driving a 2022 Buick Enclave SUV westbound at a speed which was unsafe during rainfall. Sergeant Clark said the vehicle hydroplaned and then hit the guardrail.
Keele was taken to St Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont for treatment of her injury.
Beech Grove Fire Chief Jamie Gunter said a small dog in the car was very scared after the crash and it jumped off of the bridge and into the lake and began swimming away. Gunter said a man, Woodville resident Jack Thompson, was nearby in a boat and saw what happened. Gunter said the man used his fishing net to scoop the little dog out of the water and return it to the owner.
