Jasper County deputies on Thursday arrested a woman accused of hitting a 2-year-old child in the face, and they later arrested a man in the same case. The report said it happened at a house on Farm to Market Road 252 just north of Kirbyville.
According to the report, deputies found the woman, 26-year-old Miriha Barrett, running on the highway wearing nothing but a pair of shorts and they determined that she was under the influence of drugs.
The report said Barrett took two meth pipes from her shorts, put them on the ground and then smashed them with her hand.
Later on Thursday, deputies arrested 61-year-old Keith Barnett. The report said that he was at the house at the time, but he left before deputies arrived. The report also said that he left the child with the woman while knowing that she was under the influence of drugs.
Barrett was charged with Endangering a Child and Tampering with Evidence.
Barnett was charged with Child Endangerment.
