COUSHATTA, La. (KSLA) - A young woman is dead after a shooting in Coushatta. The Red River Parish Sheriff’s Office says on Monday, Aug. 12 around 1:30 p.m., deputies and officers with the Coushatta Police Department were sent out to a house in the 900 block of Second Street about a possible shooting. When they got there, they found a woman who appeared to have been shot lying in the front yard. EMS personnel responded, but the woman was unresponsive. She was pronounced dead on the scene by the Red River Parish deputy coroner. The woman has been identified by the coroner’s office as a 20-year-old Black female from Coushatta. Her name is being withheld pending notification of the family. The alleged shooter and homeowner was on the scene of the shooting. He has been identified as Thomas Mangham, 58, of Coushatta. Mangham was detained by deputies and a search warrant was issued for the home. Inside, deputies found the gun they believe was used in the shooting. Mangham was arrested and taken to the Red River Parish Jail, where he was booked for second-degree murder and illegal discharge of a firearm. As of the publication of this article, Mangham remains in jail awaiting a bond hearing. The investigation into what happened is ongoing.
