PALESTINE, Texas (KLTV) -Palestine Police Department reports that a woman was killed when she walked across a busy highway in Palestine Tuesday night and was hit by a UPS truck.

Just before 8 p.m. on Tuesday, February 17, police and fire crews were dispatched to the intersection of S. Loop 256 and S. Sycamore (F.M. 322) in reference to a crash between a vehicle and a pedestrian.

Officers arrived on scene and found that a female pedestrian had been struck by a UPS delivery truck. The pedestrian was taken to the Palestine Regional ER, where she was later pronounced deceased.

Based on witness statements and evidence at the scene, police found that the UPS truck was traveling west on S. Loop 256. The pedestrian attempted to cross the loop traveling north near the intersection.

The UPS truck had a green light and traveled through the intersection, striking the woman. Police say she was found wearing dark clothing and was not in a crosswalk.

The UPS driver stopped, remained on scene, and cooperated for the duration of the incident. At this time, no charges are being filed, according to police.

The identity of the pedestrian is currently being withheld pending next-of-kin notification. She was not a resident of Palestine.

The investigation is ongoing
