A woman had critical injuries after the car she was driving went off the highway and crashed head-on into a tree late Monday morning. It happened shortly after 11:00 on Highway 190, about a mile east of the Jasper-Newton County line.
The woman was flown from the scene by medical helicopter. Her two young daughters, ages 4 and 5, were also in the car. They didn’t appear to be injured, but they were taken to Jasper Memorial Hospital to be evaluated.
KJAS later learned that after 17-year-old Gideon Robinson heard the crash in front of his house, he ran outside and saw the car smoking. Gideon busted out a back window, crawled inside, and rescued the two young girls out of the car.
According to Texas Department of Public Safety Sergeant Shana Clark, 34-year-old April Gollihare, of Newton, was driving the 2015 Kia eastbound when, for an unknown reason, she crossed the westbound lane and then went off the highway.
At last word Gollihare was undergoing treatment for life-threatening injuries.
