A woman has been arrested in a Vernon Parish murder case that happened over the weekend.
Sheriff Sam Craft says deputies responded on Saturday to a home about 5 miles south of Leesville after they were requested to check the welfare of woman who lived there.
Craft said deputies didn’t get an answer at the door and they could hear a person moaning inside, so they knocked down the door to make entry.
Once inside, Craft said they found a man who had been shot and was dead and a woman who was alive, but unresponsive. The man was identified as 22-year-old Micah Schmidt, of DeRidder, and the woman was the resident of the house, 31-year-old Destini Leon.
It was not disclosed what was wrong with Leon, but she underwent treatment at a hospital and was soon released.
Sheriff Craft said during questioning, Leon admitted to investigators that she shot and killed Schmidt, but her reason is not known.
Leon was arrested and has been charged with Second Degree Murder and she remains in the Vernon Parish Jail.
