Lawsuit filed after a child was attacked by dogs in Sabine County

A Nacogdoches law firm has announced that a lawsuit has been filed against the owners of three dogs which attacked and severely injured a child recently in Sabine County. The incident occurred as the child was playing in the back yard of his home in the Bronson area.

Following the attack, Sheriff George Griffith said the owner shot and killed two of the dogs and ran out of ammunition, so one of his deputies shot and killed the third dog.

Meanwhile, the child, a 10-year-old boy, remains in Texas Childrens Hospital in Houston where he has undergone five surgeries and has over 500 stitches.

A statement from the law firm of Hightower, Franklin, & James says they have filed suit against the owners of the dogs, Thomas and Pennie Maggard.

The complaint, filed by the attorneys Tanner Franklin and Sean Hightower, says that the Maggards “knew that their dogs were unvaccinated and were violent and aggressive. Yet, the Maggards allowed their dogs out of their residence without a leash or any means of control to roam the neighborhood.”
