Woman and dog killed in bizarre accident in Beaumont

A report released by Beaumont Police on Monday said officers now believe a woman who died after being hit by a vehicle on Sunday night had ran into the road to check on a dog that had just been hit and killed.

The accident occurred in the 5700 block of North Major Drive near the intersection of Farm to Market Road 105 shortly after 9:00.

Once on scene, officers saw a woman lying in the inside northbound lane of North Major Drive. Officers began interviewing witnesses and learned that woman and a male acquaintance were having a disturbance near the driveway of an apartment complex. During the disturbance, the man's dog pulled away and ran into traffic and was struck and killed by a passing vehicle.

The man and woman ran out to check one the dog and the female was then struck and killed by a sport utility vehicle. The driver initially stopped, but then left the area and was found a short time later at an address in Beaumont.

The deceased was later identified on Monday as Brandy Gail Buck, 43, of Beaumont.

The crash and potential charges against the driver remain under investigation at this time, according to BPD.

On So far police have not released the name of the person driving the SUV.
