WINN PARISH, La. – Louisiana State Police are investigating a single-vehicle crash that claimed the life of a Winnfield man Saturday afternoon. The crash occurred around 3:45 p.m. Saturday, on Louisiana Highway 499, north of Louisiana Highway 34. Dustin M. Pickron, 34, was driving a 2016 Dodge Ram 1500 southbound on Highway 499 when, for reasons still under investigation, the vehicle left the roadway, traveled down an embankment, and struck several trees, authorities said. Pickron, who was not wearing a seatbelt, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Routine toxicology samples were collected and are being submitted for analysis. State Police continue to investigate the crash. Authorities said distracted and inattentive driving remains a leading cause of crashes in Louisiana and urged motorists to stay alert on the road.
