Firefighters were busy on Wednesday afternoon working a woods fire between Jasper and Brookeland. It was reported shortly after 3:00 along Private Road 6195 off of County Road 239, which is about 6 miles north of Jasper. Lake Rayburn firefighters were first on scene and soon called for assistance from both the Texas A&M Forest Service and the Jasper Fire Department. Jasper firefighters were dispatched out several minutes after they were requested. Firefighters reported that fortunately the blaze was spreading very slowly, and they were able to quickly get a handle on it. Meanwhile, there’s no word on what may have caused the fire.
